Summertime sanity check

Most likely this term is flying by. You’ve done UCAS (or not) and are now in the final straights, aiming towards exams and freedom. Well done and keep going! Next stop summer.

During summer, after a well earned rest, is the time to get focused again and sanity check your firm and insurance options. So many students are forced to decide degrees in a hurry - sometimes not even visiting the universities chosen due to mocks/other deadlines. So summer is the time to really deep dive the course and ensure it does suit your learning style and expectations. And visit if you need to! UCAS Clearing exists to enable students to change ideas. Our usual Y13 Guidance sessions help students to

  • Consider all options: we’ll talk about you - a lot! To make sound Uni or apprenticeship decisions, you need to know yourself really well. We’ll spend time double checking what genuinely interests you, and ensuring you’ve picked the very best option for your aims.

  • Evaluate Choices: we’ll talk through ideal careers linked to your degree choices and the current world of work to ensure you have a game plan around employability.

  • Degree Apprenticeships: If you're considering this excellent pathway, we will talk business, explore available opportunities and help you organize the all important work experience needed- to prove your interest to employers. We can then help you apply.

How to sanity check degree/Degree Apprenticeship ideas?

Before enrolling on any next step program it is wise to honestly reflect on what the last few hard years of studying have taught you about yourself. Careers tutoring will help you:

  • Reflect on Your Experiences: Consider how your exams went and what they revealed about your preferences and capabilities. Did any new interests or career ideas emerge?

  • Gain impartial support : Summer holidays gives you distance from the pressures of school, peers and FOMO. It gives you time and space to deep dive your true aims and needs. Melanie provides a safe space to explore your options and refine your plans if you wish to.

Whilst the UCAS deadline has passed, students can still apply to a number of universities that are still taking applications. If this is you, then you’ll need to write a Personal Statement asap. We can help!
